As I get older I find myself becoming obsessed with preventing wrinkles and maintaining my youthful appearance. I must say there are a lot of products and treatments out there, but do they really work? Honestly only time will tell, but one thing I do know is that you can’t go wrong with trying natural ingredients. They are readily available, inexpensive and contain no harmful chemicals. Sometimes natural remedies even prove to be more effective than high priced well-known products and brands. Here are some natural remedies and helpful tips to minimize damage already done to the skin and help you look younger a lot longer.
1.) Egg Whites:- I guess they are not only healthy to eat but are good for your skin too. Egg whites are full of protein for tissue repair and growth. They also contain potassium to preserve the moisture in skin cells, fiboflavin to eliminate toxins and free radicals that are known to cause wrinkles. It also contains magnesium too, which slows down the aging process and lysozyme, which digest the cell walls of acne-causing bacteria. Apply egg whites on your skin for 30 minutes and try to avoid talking or laughing when it’s on your face to reduce laugh lines. Eggs tighten your skin instantly, giving you that spa effect that everyone craves.
2.) Carrots:- Carrots have a high content of vitamin A, which promotes the production of collagen and helps keep the skin smooth. You can either boil 2-3 carrots in water until they become soft and then blend with honey to get a paste then apply it to your face or simply drink carrot juice daily for two weeks to get a youthful complexion. If you decided to use the mask, be sure to leave it on your face for at least a half hour.
3.) Sleep Wrinkles:- Avoid pressing your face in the pillow when you sleep and try to get into the habit of sleeping on your back. One of the most common cause of wrinkles is sleeping. Squishing your face into a pillow is basically like ironing wrinkles into your skin. Also try to avoid sleeping on your side because it can create a permanent crease down your cheeks. Sleeping on your back is the best option to avoid sleep wrinkles.
4.) Turmeric mixed with sugarcane juice has the power to slow down the loosening and aging of skin.
5.) Avoid sweat on your face for too long as it dehydrates and steals the glow from your face.
6.) Olive Oil:- Apply olive oil on your face where you have signs of aging. It is a good source of vitamins A and E, which fight skin-damaging free radicals. When you massage olive oil onto the affected skin area for at least 10 minutes daily, your skin will moisturize, repair and even regenerate skin cells. As the oil penetrates deep into your skin, it provides long-lasting protection and keeps it moisturized. If you want to spice it up a bit, add a few drops of honey and glycerin to olive oil and massage the mixture into your skin twice daily to eliminate dead skin cells and tighten sagged skin.
7.) Combine a mixture of Vitamin E Capsules, add 2 tsp plain yogurt, ½ tsp honey and ½ tsp lemon juice in a bowl. Use a cotton ball or pad to apply mixture on the face for about 10 minutes then rinse off.
8.) Pineapples:- Pineapples are rich in antioxidants, fibers and vitamins that boost skin health. This fruit also has enzymes that promote skin elasticity, help eliminate dead skin cells and moisturize the skin. It’s recommended to rub the core or the flesh of a pineapple on your face and leave on for 15- 20 minutes before washing off. Applying the juice of a green pineapple on the face daily for 10-15 minutes is also a good remedy for treating dark circles around the eyes.
9.) Aloe Vera:- The aloe vera plant contains malic acid that helps reduce wrinkles by improving the elasticity of your skin. The clear gel inside an aloe vera plant also has wound-healing and soothing effects when applied directly to the skin. Cut an aloe vera leaf from the plant and extract its gel. Rub the gel gently onto your skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Another option is to mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel with the contents of a vitamin E capsule. Apply the mixture to areas where the wrinkles are forming and leave on for about a half hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
10.) Last but not least, Facial Exercises! I wasn’t surprised this remedy popped up because my mom continues to drill this in my head. Make an exaggerated E or O position with your mouth and hold for 30 seconds. You can also move your lips in all directions or chew gum to relax your facial muscles.
Since good skin comes from within, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drinking pure filtered water is one of the most easiest and most effective home remedies for treating wrinkles. Not only does it keep the body hydrated, it maintains the moisture level in the skin. When the body is dehydrated your skin will generally look older. It’s recommended to drink atleast two liters of filtered water daily, so drink up ladies and gents!
These are only a few of the many tips you can try to smooth, moisturize, lift your skin and reduce lines without insane side effects. Just remember its always better to nurse your skin at an early age, to avoid wrinkles for as long as possible.
